The challenge
Codex shipped animated pets as a sprite format with nowhere to find, preview or share them. Creators had no way to publish, and developers had no way to install one without copying folders by hand.
What we built
A gallery that previews every state of every pet, a reviewed submission flow with personal collections, a CLI that installs any pet with one npx command, and a desktop floater that sits above your workspace and connects to your agents in one click.
Data & AI
Every submission passes an OpenAI review pipeline before it reaches the index. The desktop app listens to agent activity and animates on each tool call, across Codex, Claude Code, OpenCode, Gemini CLI and more.
Impact
Petdex became the reference index for agent pets: 4.2k stars, thousands of community pets and roughly 8.7k npm downloads every month.
